Goju-ryu karate was founded in the early 1930s by Miyagi Chojun. He blended the Naha-te he learned from his teacher, Higaonna Kanryo, and other Okinawan instructors with Chinese martial arts, creating a system that combined hard and soft methods. In 1932, the name Goju-ryu was registered with the Dai Nippon Butokukai.
Miyagi Sensei passed away in 1953. Several of his students preserved his teachings through schools such as Komeikan, Shodokan, and Shoreikan. Our lineage comes from Toyama Zenshu Hanshi, he was a student of Toguchi Seikichi and Higa Seiko. |
